How can I move a boat dock that is now on land?
A cable snapped on my boat dock and the dock is now completely on land. Due to a heavy drought, I have not attempted to fix it in many years. My thoughts were to disconnect the catwalk, use a heavy duty jack, mount triton rollers on all four corners, and place some boards underneath the rollers leading all the way to the water, and then push (with 6-8 friends) and pull with a four wheeler I own. Any ideas? I spoke with a boat dock mover and he estimated it would cost $2k for him to get it back in the water so I would like to avoid that.
mounting the wheels and using boards or plywood to roll over should work as long as the sides of the dock are strong enough to support the weight.
if the bottom of the dock is smooth you could also roll the dock over a series of poles. (if the bottom of the dock is not smooth then use boards on the bottom and then roll over poles).
along with pushing and pulling the dock long lever arms can also be used to pry the dock forward.
