lifting keel boats
can i dry out my etap 22i against a wall with keel down or will i brake it?
i need to paint my keel but cant afford to have it lifted out the water. i was wondering if my lift keel would sport the mass of the boat wall down.
Your keel is supported on an axle with bearings on each side. Hope you have kept them serviced!
I would not trust bearings designed and rated to support a hanging keel to, safely and without damage, suport the balance of the boat’s weight.
I have set my cutter (22,000 lbs) on a tidal grid and was glad when the tide returned. Missed the balance point and it wanted to tip forward as water receded, a fire drill of redistribution of weight ensued.
Beg, borrow, rent a trailer and use some additional blocking to lift it off the bunker boards to get the paint in that area. Not pleasant work but then you are short on funds and so was I !!
