Do parents have an obligation to explain or apologize to their adult children for bad parenting?
And if they don’t, can I ask them to explain, and if they won’t, should I avoid them so that the abuse doesn’t continue? If they’re in denial and refuse to admit any regrets, or think it impolite for me to beg such questions, don’t they see that isn’t a relationship anymore? I apologize to my kid all the time when I realize I’ve made a mistake, and apologize to my parents when I’ve hurt them, but is confronting them with my confusion over their past mistakes really hurting them, or would it only “hurt” them because they’re in denial, and if they actually faced the issue they could finally resolve it and we could both be satisfied and our relationship could grow. Does this make sense to anyone? How do I explain to people that by bringing up issues I’m trying to bring us closer together, when all they want to do is not rock the boat?
Try to be a forgiving child. Parents are not obliged to apologize. But they may explain. You’re a parent yourself. Your should understand your parents better. We taught and brought up our children in different ways. Your parents may not want you questioning them or bringing up issues. You may have your point in trying to resolve whatever problems and make relationship grow.But sometimes it makes matter worse. So, you got to be very tactful in talking to your parents the way they want to hear. Do not demand an apology or explaination. Parents hate that.
