Can I tow a 24′ cruiser boat with a ML350 08′?
We are looking to buy a cruiser boat around 24′-26′ ….I just want to know if my SUV can tow the boat. My SUV is a benz ML350 -2008… Thanks!
That’s quite a heavy boat, even with a boat trailer with electric brakes I’d be concerned about pulling it with your SUV, especially since its a 6 cylinder.
I figure you are looking about a boat & trailer that could go anywhere from 3,500 pounds to near 6,000 pounds. These boats are not meant to be hauled around by medium to light SUV’s, they require vehicles that can tow large loads.
I also bet that your ML350′s brakes are most likely not as effective in stopping power as most current full sized trucks and SUV’s that are built for towing. Automotive manufacturers are notorious for putting weaker brakes on medium and light duty SUV’s. Vehicle’s braking power is critical, because if those brakes take forever to slow it down, you are screwed.
I’ve seen from several car info listing sites and the max towing capacity stated is 7,200 for the 2008 ML350.
From the vehicle specs and the type of boat you are wanting to purchase, your Mercedes SUV is not sufficient enough for you to safely tow a boat of this size and weight. Always better to switch to a vehicle with extra vehicle power and towing capacity than to push the limit of your vehicle’s towing capacity. It’s not worth risking an accident or your family’s life.
You either need a full sized truck or SUV capable of towing 10,000 pounds or better. Most of the GM full sized SUV’s with V8′s can get the job done.
