Do I have to pay sales tax if I buy a boat in usa and intend to sail it back to the uk?
Not every state has sales tax (but most have luxury taxes on items this big). Most states do not charge sales tax on out-of state purchases. So, arranging the payment through mail / internet/ phone could get you around sales tax, but not luxury taxes (if the state has them). Regardless you will owe duty in the UK.
